Having nearly 2 years of work experience in regular office job, I suddenly had to take a break because of marriage, move cities and settle in a new environment with people who were going to be my new family. Taking a break from work can be a daunting task and getting back to work has its own sets of challenges. The main hurdle was explaining the reasons for my break. As time passed, my self confidence dipped a bit even job opportunities were few and far. So I decided to switch to freelancing work thinking at least some sort of work engagement will be beneficial. During one such search I came across my current company Infiniti Creation. Skeptical as always of getting accepted in a new job role, I applied for the job in their portal and waited with my finger crossed. Soon I received a mail for an interview, delighted with disbelief, it was a ray of hope in my job hunt and getting back to things I love to do for myself.
After clearing the three rounds I was offered a job to work remotely from home. It was a bittersweet experience, at one hand I got the job and was happy about it but at the other I was doubtful how this remoter might turned out, working in isolation far from hustle and bustle of office life. With no new faces to see or friends to be made the thought of working in an isolated condition was bit depressing at first. Then soon I was inducted to the company and assigned to my very first project. KT started and at the same time I started interacting with various people online through Skype calls.
Now technology affords us the ability to get the job done no matter where ever we are in the world. Working with people located at different places like Chennai, Indore, Delhi, UK and I working from Hyderabad was a fascinating experience. The work was getting done seamlessly like in normal brick and mortar company. People have flexibility to join work at their own timings and even take breaks in-between to look at their household needs and resume back to finish off the tasks, which I personally think is way cooler than the monotonous 9-6 working slot of office environments.
As time passed I could note many key benefits of working remotely. The cost of commuting, fuel, and adding expensive attire to wardrobes are no longer required. At the same time it provides the flexibility to choose my working hours as well as my setting up my own environment. The lighting, AC temperature, the coffee taste, the light background music (sometimes) is all as per my own choice, the things that makes me happy and productive. No unnecessary gossips and breaks with coworkers just to crib about my work and life. The best part is avoiding the total waste of commute time which would waste 2-3 hours daily depending on which part of India you are. All this has allowed me to focus more on work and less on things that doesn’t matter. With reduced stress and more flexibility I am quite happy about the career path chosen.
I would like to appreciate and applause the vision of our CEO for visualizing such a wonderful concept and giving me a unique opportunity to work for an organization whose spread and reach is across India, giving me colleagues who may not be in front of me but are as helpful and considerate as one can be. This unique experience has made me realize the ever growing benefits associate with remote work and with advancement in technology I am convinced this is no longer just an option but the only way to grow in future.
